Le chercheur du LNCMI obtient l’ "ERC advanced grant"

Marek Potemski, a leader of the "Semiconductors & Nanophysics" group at the LNCMI-Grenoble, has been awarded a five year ERC Advanced Grant.

The implementation of this project, entitled : "Magneto-optics of layered materials : exploring many-body physics in electronic systems with unconventional bands", will enable to significantly expand the recent research activities of Potemski’s group in the area of fundamental properties of the emergent class of two-dimensional systems.

The main objective is the investigation of many-body effects in new quantum Hall effect systems (graphitic layers and surface states of topological insulators) and in layered metals of transition metal dichalcogenides, using magneto-optical spectroscopy - unconventional for this purpose, but uniquely applicable to these particular systems. The methods of magneto-Raman scattering, of microwave and far-infrared spectroscopy will be employed to test the basic principles of electron-electron interactions for Dirac fermions in the regime of the quantum Hall effect and to probe the competition between the insulating and metallic phases in correlated electron systems.
