The mission of the LNCMI :

provide high magnetic fields for excellent research

The mission of the LNCMI is to develop experiments in high* magnetic fields up to 36 T (static fields). The laboratory welcomes scientists from accross the world, providing them with state of the art equipment. The  LNCMI-Grenoble relies on different stafff categories, such as research teamstechnical support, management and production of high magnetic fields, who enable the laboratory to host, all year long, scientists in fundamental and applied physics, chemistry, magneto-science... who need high magnetic fields to lead their research.

In order to prioritize scientific excellence, each user must submitt a written proposal to the EMFL - the European Magnetic Field Laboratory - of which the LNCMI is a founding member. Calls for proposals are bi-annual. An international expert committee evaluates and selects the proposals. Access is then divided between Grenoble and Nijmegen (the Netherlands) for static field proposals.

*a high magnetic field can be generated only with large electric installations - it is not available on the market.
