The electric power installation

High field magnets are supplied by 4 AC/DC power converters of about 6 MW. These converters, based on SCR Rectifier Bridges, provide until 16000A at 400V with a current stability of about 10 ppm. They can be connected in parallel on a single magnet for providing until 64000A.


The cooling installation


The high field magnets are cooled down by a closed loop of deionised and deoxygenated water. For a 24MW magnet, the typical flow rate is about 1000 m3/h. A secondary circuit extracts the heat from the closed loop using a mechanical exchanger and the water from the neighbor river. This characteristic allows user to work at the maximum power without duration limitation.
